Today almost every brand or company is making their presence felt through social media. All the brands are enabled with a power of spreading their work through postings, sharing their content on social networks.
As, social media not only releases you from high end budgets for you to talk about you and your work through banners, advertisements, etc, but also gives you reach to all at one go.
So if in today’s world social media presence is very important then the way you get presented also makes an impact on your image. Therefore we here in discuss about, “how your image posts behave in facebook’s network”.
There are a several different ways of using images and photos on Facebook, each of which has different dimensions and quirks. Each type of image on a Facebook page has its own size.
- The cover photo is the large panoramic image space at the top of the timeline. It’s displayed at 851 x 315 pixels.
- The image postings are in prescribed sizes of: 720 x 720 pixels OR 843 x 403 pixels OR 1005 x 650 pixels
- The profile image is a smaller square at bottom left of the header, overlapping the cover photo. Its dimension is 160 x 160 pixels, but you have to upload an image at least 180 by 180 pixels.
Facebook’s maximum uploading size is 2048 pixels wide, but practically this limit is actually much higher. There is a reason why this size is set, that is 2080 pixel images fits to the screen.
Apart from just making image posting on your page or timeline, one needs to promote them, so for running ads successfully one point you need to keep in mind is, that the text on the image should be strictly up to 20%. This really helps in making an important image to reach larger audience and make an impressive impact.
Do you know that images are compressed by facebook? If you say NO, then here is what you really need to go through. Now, comes the most important aspect related to images more specifically about image type (eg. JPG, PNG,etc.). Yes, facebook performs compression on your pretty images!
Below image shows the impact of compression on the image after uploaded on facebook.
It surely makes sense, Facebook want to speedup page loading and reduce bandwidth by applying as much compression as much possible. Compression on the cover photo and profile image is far greater than performed on gallery images. Also try to upload your images in PNG file format. It’s a tried and tested method! All the design elements remain almost intact in PNG file format and thus provide best quality image view.
If we are mentioning a problem in here, then it becomes necessary to even mention the solution to it. The solution to this situation is by uploading images that don’t have a lot of compression already applied on it. For jpegs, for example, try keeping the quality setting at 80% or above–Facebook is going to compress it again anyway. If you’re using software that factors in colorspace (like Lightroom or Photoshop), use RGB colorspace.
And at in the end one highlight point is that always try to upload the image of size less than or equal to 100 kb. This is because above 100kb size images get compressed at double the normal rate.
As, one has to follow the guidelines to set up a page or profile on any social media platform. Facebook also has the same pattern so; one should follow the guidelines given. Hope all the above points help you out in setting up a page or profile worth a watch and help the brands go high on social base.
