The 23 year old girl was raped and inhumanly assaulted in a moving bus by six men in Delhi on December 16 and thrown out of the moving bus along with her companion. The brutishly rape shook Indians out of their usual dispassion. The protesters are demanding stronger protection for women and the death penalty for rapists. Women face daily harassment across India, ranging from catcalls (whistle,comments etc.) on the streets, groping and touching in public transport to finally rape.
Due to this horrific ordeal the social networking sites also became a platform where most of the people expressed their concern and grief on the happenings. Let’s look how on Facebook users have shown their concern and anger.
Some of my colleagues and friends on Facebook changed their cover pictures and profile pictures which have spread widely among their friends to prove that they are not only affected but also support that ‘Rape is a Crime’ and not such a crime which should be overlooked by the government.
In this context people have written whatever they have felt on their profile as they know that Facebook is the platform where their concern would spread to thousands of people which could awaken them to come into action. Proper events were created to ask users join the mass movement at India gate.
This time even men with sensible mind have supported women everywhere and in every protest whether it was on the roads or on Facebook.
Women have expressed how they were affected by the happening and how they feel scared travelling alone anywhere in Delhi. They have asked people to take a pledge to at least educate their children to ‘RESPECT’ Women’s and girls and not turn blind on them.
Girls from all over India have communicated their friends that there are some female cabs in which they can travel at least safely.
After 13 days of struggle of the victim and the struggle of protestors for Justice, when the government did not assure women safety and death penalty to rapist, people expressed their thought about our government which actually demanded BOYCOTT.
The victim of the gang rape died in Singapore hospital on Friday as her medical condition was critical after several surgeries, her death electrified Indians to demand a greater protection from sexual violence that impacts thousands of women every day.
